This was followed by a stint in the Serengeti in Tanzania, training the local managers at Migration Camp. At the same time Warren completed a comprehensive guiding course.
Then he went to Abercrombie & Kent’s Sanctuary Lodges in Northern Botswana - Chobe Chilwero, Chiefs and Stanley’s. Here he was responsible for all the staff training as well as the uplifting of the quality of all three camps. He worked as concession manager at NG32 Concession (Stanley's and Baines Camp) where part of the concession profits went to the local community. Warren also helped build Baines camp with Graham Labe. “What is interesting about this camp,” he says, “is that all the people who were involved in building the camp are from the local community and they are also the same staff, once the camp was completed, who have been employed to run and manage the camp. “
Next stop was as Lodge Manager at Singita Lebombo, in the Kruger Park. This was a fascinating contrast for Warren, working in a very modern and state-of-the-art camp, rubbing shoulders with Annie Lennox and Donna Karan.
Warren’s most recent position before joining Orient-Express was as Operations Manager for All Terrain Services in Ghana – a company that literally set up and ran the residence town sites in the middle of nowhere for the country’s mining and manufacturing industry. Apart from designing the layout of the town sites, he was also responsible for all the hospitality, catering, housekeeping and entertainment needs of the inhabitants.
Warren is very happy to settle down for a while in Maun, Botswana, with his wife and two young children. As General Manager of Orient-Express Botswana, he is looking forward to doing the work he is passionate about – training local staff into management positions, conservation, investing more into community projects, strengthening the guest experience and creating a unique encounter and flair at each of Orient-Express’s three camps in Botswana – Eagle Island Camp, Khwai River Lodge and Savute Elephant Camp.
